Washing Your WLBC Lace-Top Wig

Washing Your WLBC Lace-Top Wig

We often get asked "how do I wash my wig?" or "can you give me tips on how to make sure to extend the life of my wig?"

Here is a video, with step-by-step instructions, along with a few do's and don't when washing your human hair, lace-top wig.

TOOLS YOU'LL NEED:

  • Color-Safe Shampoo and Conditioner: We Love "Ghost" Shampoo and Conditioner by Verb
  • Gentle Detangling Brush: We Love "The Original Detangler" by Wet Brush
  • Towel
  • Clean Sink Basin or Small Tub

STEPS:

  • Gently Brush all the tangles out of the wig, keeping your desired part in place.
  • Using cool or tepid water, rinse from the base to ends of the hair, avoid using excessive water pressure in the lace area and avoid holding the base directly under the water flow, as this can loosen the knots.
  • Fill a basin or sink with cool or tepid water and mix in a dime-sized amount of shampoo.
  • Holding your thumb over the parting (to prevent tangles), gently dip the wig into the soapy water in a swooping motion submerging the wig fully. You may repeat this step 2-4 times until clean.
  • Dump the water from the basin and fill with clean water. Repeat step 4 rinsing the wig until all of the shampoo is removed.
  • Apply conditioner from mid to ends, avoiding the base and root. You may let it sit for up to 10 minutes on a towel.
  • Rinse the wig under clean, running water with low water pressure, avoiding the root and base until all conditioner is removed.
  • Pat the wig dry with a towel, do not wring or pull, or squeeze the hair with excessive force.

THE NEVER-EVERS:

  • Use non-color-safe shampoo or clarifying shampoo
  • Use hot water
  • Let it sit in water
  • Wash without detangling first
  • Expose the knots to high water pressure (this can loosen the knots and cause shedding)
  • Rub or drag a comb along the lace area
  • Use a home-made mask or treatment
  • Use a mannequin head that Is too large for your wig
  • Leave your wet wig to dry without proper airflow or store it away before ensuring all the moisture is out of the hair and cap
